An excellent free SEO tool for checking your website’s vital statistics can alert you to elements that are damaging the popularity and page rank of your website or blog. This tool has recently been named as one of the ‘Top 100 Undiscovered Websites’. All you have to do at Website Grader is to enter the URL of your web pages and you will find out all the critical readings of your site. Here is a shot of the readings for this website, which are mostly quite acceptable. I found some areas for improvement, these will keep me busy this weekend.

This is the second in a series of items on optimizing your pages for AdSense. Looking back to
Adsense Ad Targeting Part One, these are five areas you need to give attention to:

1. Keyword analysis - Google is delivering ads according to your keyword content
2. Word frequency - aim for keyword density of no more than two percent overall
3. Font size - for example, using the H1 and H2 tags for your SEO-rich headlines
4. Link structure - relevant links using good anchors, to all your pages - not just the home page
5. Section targeting - you can also use section targeting, either to direct Google to your most relevant copy or to ignore irrelevant copy - find out how to use Adsense section targeting
   
   

Google has released a number of videos about the way Google works. One of the videos explains updates of the Google index - did you know Google updates parts of its index every day? That means that there is always an update going on. I have been trying to get some new pages indexed for nearly a week so I hope they crawl in my direction soon.

I found one of the videos extremely helpful for optimizing my sites.

Google has updated its webmaster tools area and Matt explains this in one of the videos. It is now a one stop shop where you can check which of your pages are indexed, whether the Googlebot had any trouble crawling your pages and get your google site map checked. Mostly it was very helpful although it does not explain all the sitemap errors so you can spend some time tracking them down. Just the thing for a geeky afternoon ..

If you are just starting with Adsense, these are the basics that you need to put on your site before you even think about getting inbound links.

* The title tag on your page - in the head section of the html code - includes your main keyword or keyword phrase. So if your keyword is ‘AdSense’ it will read ‘Adsense Secrets, Adsense Coaching, Free Google Tips for Increased Earnings‘
* Description tag: ‘If your Google AdSense earnings have been at miserable levels since you enrolled your site, you have probably felt disheartened. Here are tips ..‘
* The H1 tags include the site headline of your site and your keyword. ‘Simple Strategy to Boost Your Adsense Income‘
* Your website text should be at least 300 words on each page, and use the keyword about five times, in different paragraphs.
* You must have outbound links on your page containing your keyword or keyword phrase.
* The last twenty five words before your closing tag should include the keyword or keyword phrase that you are attempting to rank for.

All these actions will improve your site page rank once it has been indexed by Google.

Now you can look for inbound links. The quality of the links is important. You are looking for sites in your niche, with a logical reason for linking to you. You can join a link exchange service, you can contact webmatsters to negotaite reciprocal links, or you can buy links. You can also generate relevant links by writing articles and submitting them to article directories. Published articles are picked up by webmasters and ezine editors and produce infinite backlinks to your site or blog.
