There is an unofficial list of words which are believed to prevent Google from delivering paid Adsense ads to your site. If you have these on your page, you will probably receive (unpaid) PSA ads instead. Included in the list are words associated with the end of life, so I am intrigued that these words were used in the recent launch campaigns for two major internet marketing tutorial programs. No, I am not going to name them – this page features Adsense, and I am sure you know the affiliate programs yourself. My experience in many experience with Adsense ad. formats is that there is one format that outperforms all others on my web pages. Low paying Adsense Ads are a major challenge for Adsense publishers, and I have explained before how and why these low paying clicks are served up. One way of preventing these ads appearing is to use the filter provided when you log in to your Adsense account. But this is limited to 200 URLs, and there are far more low paying MFA (made for Adsense) advertisers out there. You can get details of some of the lowest paying advertisers at AdsBlacklist, where there are also moves to ask Google to increase the filter list capacity to 500 URLs. Google does not reveal the specifics on the methods behind its Adsense algorithms, but most publishers are sure that keyword density plays a significant role. Adsense does rely on the content to determine which ads to show, and they want their ads to be shown. I have published my blog feeds through a number of publishers and a couple of them have now stipulated that full feeds, not partial feeds, are required. As an Adsense publisher I had thought a full feed would mean readers didn’t need to visit the site so I would miss out on clicks. However the guys over at Feedburner, whose opinion I respect, advise that truncated feeds result in higher clickthroughs. Their advice is that good content rich feeds will cause your readers to subscribe and check out the comments. So I am sticking with full feeds.

Google has released a number of videos about the way Google works. One of the videos explains updates of the Google index – did you know Google updates parts of its index every day? That means that there is always an update going on. I have been trying to get some new pages indexed for nearly a week so I hope they crawl in my direction soon.

Google has updated its webmaster tools area and Matt explains this in one of the videos. It is now a one stop shop where you can check which of your pages are indexed, whether the Googlebot had any trouble crawling your pages and get your google site map checked. Mostly it was very helpful although it does not explain all the sitemap errors so you can spend some time tracking them down. Just the thing for a geeky afternoon ..
