The new Blogger ‘layout’ with widgets seems to be in use by a number of bloggers and I have been leaving plaintive notes on other people’s blogs asking how they made the transition without having a nervous breakdown. I am now in a dilemma, as a number of ‘paid to blog‘ sites ask bloggers to use the new Blogger widgets as part of the display process. I am seriously considering setting up a wordpress blog as an alternative so I will be touring some wordpress blogs to check them out.

I have mentioned before the tools you can use to filter out low paying Adsense Ads, which usually lead to Made for Adsense (MFA) sites. There are two reasons to try and prevent them appearing on your pages. First, they cost you money by taking space that could be used for regular Adwords ads. Second, if someone clicks a link and land on a spammy page full of irrelevant links they will associate these with you, and they are less likely to return to your pages. Adsense publishers seeking to monetise their web pages are often uncertain whether they can display other advertising networks when they already have Adsense units on the same pages.

It can be difficult to interpret the Adsense Program Policy if you are thinking of signing up for another networks such as Text Link Ads, but the guidance should put your mind at rest. The main thing is to make sure that any other contextual ads you display alongside Adsense ads have a different appearance. They should use a different colour set from your Adsense Ads.

Here is the official Google Adsense Advice:
