Adsense Custom Channels Show You What is Working

Google now offers custom targeting channels for AdSense, an option that allows AdSense publishers to separate out the different google advertising blocks on their web pages. Adwords advertisers can also use the facility to monitor the top performing units and select them for their ads. Here is the official word on creating channels:

‘Custom channels allow you to track the performance of specific ad units based on your specified criteria. By pasting channel-specific ad code into your pages, you can track a variety of metrics across a range of URLs. Use custom channels to track the performance of different ad formats, for example or to compare different page topics to one another. Adsense Arbitrage Guide - Part Four

Adsense Arbitrage has become the only topic for online discussion following recent drops in publishers’ Adsense income due to smart pricing. Making a success of Adsense now involves much more than simply pasting the code on your web pages. Smart webmasters use Arbitrage to attract traffic using low priced keywords, and direct them to optimized web pages where they can earn a higher clickthrough price. Complicated, possibly - so get this free guide to lead you through the process and you can decide whether this is the route for you. read part three

Adsense Arbitrage - Part Three

So what is smart pricing? Here is Google’s explanantion for Adwords Advertisers -

Google’s smart pricing feature automatically adjusts the cost of a keyword-targeted content click. So if our data shows that a click from a content page is less likely to turn into actionable business results - such as online sales, registrations, phone calls, or newsletter signups - we reduce the price you pay for that click.

Adsense Arbitrage - Part Two

Sounds pretty simple you bid $1 for a keyword, direct the traffic to a landing page with ads that pay $2 sit back and watch the profits roll in right? Well there’s a little more to it than that, it’s not rocket science but the more familiar you are with how both Adwords and AdSense works the more likely you are to succeed. Up until fairly recently most Adsense publishers received 60% of the adwords price, $0.03 on a $0.05 bid. However now that AdSense has factored in smart pricing it’s a little more complicated. Here’s a decent explanation of smart pricing.

Adsense Arbitrage - Part One

While I am not involved in using Adsense Arbitrage, I know a lot of people arrive here searching for information on how to get started with arbitrage. Here I list a few ideas I have picked up.

What is Adsense Arbitrage?
An arbitrager aims to pay a low price for a keyword in an advertising program like AdWords, Overture or MSN, and send visitor to a page (which they also own) displaying AdSense or other contextual advertising, which attracts a higher payment per click. You can either bid low on the same term, looking for keywords with a large bid gap (advanced) or you can bid on very specific keywords that cost less because there is little competition, and drive them to a page with ads for a more general and competitive term.

Christmas Gift Idea Apple 30 GB iPod video Black

If a disk based MP3 is on your Christmas wish list you may like to consider the Apple iPod. I was a late convert to MP3s. My first iPod was a first generation iPod, too bulky for my main uses which are mainly working out and walking. I upgraded to a new 4GB iPod Nano and loved it. I was starting to run out of space on my Nano, so I was fortunate to receive the 30 GB iPod as a gift. I’m already a fan of iTunes and the various features of the iPod family, but the new feature that I like most about this iPod is its video capability. Even though friends had told me that watching video on the iPod was not bad, I had my doubts. However, after taking my new iPod on a flight and watching a couple of episodes of my favourite programmes, I have to say that I was very satisfied with the quality of the picture. It sure helped to pass the time. For some reason I did not get the 3.5 hours of video playback that Apple claims. In fact my battery was almost drained in a little under 2 hours…perhaps my iPod was not fully charged. In any case, it seems that there are a lot of small external power/battery options that will get my iPod across the Atlantic next time. I should note that this iPod is perhaps a little too bulky for my workouts…fortunately I still have my Nano for the gym.

Adsense Alternatives- Yahoo Publisher vs Google

I found an interesting link on a German Blog to a comparison chart showing the differences between Google Adsense and Yahoo Publisher Network (YPN). At present YPN is only available in the US, and by invitation only. Publishers have reported much higher per-click payments but they say the clickthrough rate can be lower with YPN due to poor ad targetting. I am looking out for developments with Yahoo’s Publisher Network.
