Adwords Arbitrage Threat to Affiliate Sites

If you have heard of Adsense Arbitrage you will know it is a way of playing the Adwords market to increase Adsense income from your site or blog. It is financially risky - it looks like dire “quality score” penalties could await Adsense Arbitrage sites. I leave it to Shoemoney to explain:

‘Adwords Quality Score. It has been no secret that Google has been working on launching a new quality score bot. I have read threads about it on pretty much every forum. I have also been getting tons of emails about the subject asking me what I think is going to happen.

I talked to a close (anonymous) friend inside Adwords and she tells me the big changes are purely targeted at the arbitragers. This really again should come as no shock. She was super vague on specifics but did tell me that they were fingerprinting (my word) links and text on page that would indicate the page was a landing for contextual search arbitrage or cost per action arbitrage. For those in Rio Linda that means if your running a landing page and directly linking with your affiliate link or running a scraper with nothing but Yahoo/Google ads then YOU’RE IN TROUBLE!

People inside Microsoft AdCenter also told me a while back that they had finger printed affiliate links and were going to start penalizing (denying or making you pay more) those that were doing that. Soooo what does all this mean? MASK YOUR LINKS. If you have a landing page for products for science sake (anyone watch southpark in the last 2 we If you have a landing page for products for science sake (anyone watch southpark in the last 2 weeks will get that joke) DO NOT directly link with your affiliate code. Make sure you have your own internal redirection system. For instance if I was paying for Google Adwords to goto shoemoney.com and on shoemoney.com I had offers for RING TONES with AzoogleAds. I have 2 ways to link to AzoogleAds Ring tone offers.

http://c.azjmp.com/az/ch.php?f=3375&i=12345 –> THIS IS BAD
OR
http://shoemoney.com/link.php?go=3375 –> this is GOOD!

Then of course in your robots.txt you disallow link.php

Ohh and for those of you doing contextual arbitrage…. unless you’re cloaking your content prepare for impact.

Keep in mind Google is not going to stop letting you do this… They are just going to charge you more cause of your “quality score”. There is just to much money to be made right now in arbitrage and Google wants a bigger slice. ‘

PPC Advertising Website Promotion

Pay-per-click (PPC) advertising has its own benefits and drawbacks. But what exactly is PPC advertising and what it can do for your business? Here is a quick run-through of the basics of PPC advertising. You can download a free step-by-step guide showing how to use Adwords effectively to make money for a low outlay.

Many businesses find the cost of advertising on conventional media such as TV, Radio and outdoor posters is too high and it is hard to track responses. Pay per click advertising online is a fast growing approach that any business can use to bring their services closer to their customers through Internet Marketing.

PPC advertising is a technique used in search engine marketing that requires the advertiser to pay a fee when someone clicks an ad on the website. Usually this placement is done through a bidding process. If you are a top bidder for your keywords/phrases, you are sure to be on the number one spot on all search engines. Just be sure to use effective advertising copy to get the highest number of clickthroughs for your money.

Benefits of PPC advertising include:
1. You need not be a genius in computing and technology to be able to run a PPC ad campaign.
2. Immediate results are seen after a few days.
3. No need to make a website conform to the SEO rules.
4. Nothing to lose even if you do not top the pages of different search engines. You can still always choose PPC advertising.
5. You can make use any search engine available.
6. You can type in any keyword you like.

Cons of PPC advertising include:
1. Fixed payments every month to the search engine you choose.
2. Pay for each click received by your website. At times, visitors are just competitors or people playing pranks on search engines. This hassle wastes money you put in to this advertising.
3. Inability to pay for the fees next month would your website is removed from the paid listings.
5. Pay-per-click pricing can be costly in the long term. It is best suited to individual advertising campaigns.

But how exactly PPC advertising can increase traffic, leads and sales?

PRE-QUALIFIED TRAFFIC. All visitors to your website are already considered qualified consumers or buyers of your product. PPC advertising leads your customers to you for a lower cost.

INSTANT EXPOSURE, IMMEDIATE PROFITS. PPC search engines enable you to get your desired results fast. They will have your website live within just a few hours which means immediate increase in sale.

CONSISTENT TOP LISTINGS. This is to get your website on top of the sponsored search results for free. You just have to choose the keywords related to your site and business and place them within your web pages. After this, you are done.

PPC advertising enables advertisers to control their advertising campaigns. Advertisers have effectively targeted their audience and set their own price per click. PPC advertising networks provide the platform to identify the desired audience by geographic setting, topic and industry. These networks have a list of websites of the publishers where the ads will be placed.

Tools are provided by the networks to check how the pay per click limit is working for a certain advertiser. If its still competitive, would it be even listed among the paid search lists or does it generate sales? Of course, if the advertiser made the highest bid, the better chances the ad will be seen in the search engine. These networks too provide protection for the advertisers against click fraud. This advertising set-up allows advertisers to set a daily budget for their ads, do there is no danger of going over your planned budget.

In PPC advertising, what are important are the keywords and phrases. You have to select at least ten “very specific” keywords that would give you the best traffic in the search. Then, write the ad creatively but straightforward. Tell the truth about your product or service and do not lie. Good thing if your product or service will not disappoint those that are relying on your ad’s promise - but what if it did otherwise? Important too is the clarity of the ad. Do not use vague language. Include important details like the price.

You should also remember to budget your bids. Do overbid because you will only lose your money and do not go so low that your ads will never get the chance to show up. Check your profit against your spending. If you see no progress then most likely you have to drop your ad campaign.

More and more advertisers have been using PPC advertising and it will continue to grow faster than any online advertising techniques. From revenues of $2.6 billion in 2004 to $5.5 billion in 2009, cost per click will dramatically go up as well from $0.29 to $0.36.

PPC advertising is new in online marketing and it is going to continue in the years to come. For advertisers, this means increase revenues with fewer advertising expenses, savings, more sales, good return on investment (ROI) and effective ad campaigns in the days to come.

Google Guide - Dynamically Created Web Pages

Google has a new way to deal with dynamically created web pages. Dynamically created web pages often cause problems with search engines. If your web pages are dynamically created, it’s likely that many search engines have difficulty indexing them.

Why do search engines have problems with dynamically created pages? Many search engines don’t like dynamically created pages because they might get in an infinite loop if they follow some dynamically created pages.

Google has an official statement about this in its webmaster guidelines:
‘If you decide to use dynamic pages (i.e., the URL contains a ‘?’ character), be aware that not every search engine spider crawls dynamic pages as well as static pages. It helps to keep the parameters short and the number of them few.’

What did Google change?
Until November, Google had the following statement in its webmaster guidelines:
‘Don’t use ‘&id=’ as a parameter in your URLs, as we don’t include these pages in our index.’

This entry has been removed from Google’s guidelines. Here’s the official statement from Google’s blog:
‘[Google now indexes] URLs that contain that parameter. So if your site uses a dynamic structure that generates it, don’t worry about rewriting it — we’ll accept it just fine as is.

Keep in mind, however, that dynamic URLs with a large number of parameters may be problematic for search engine crawlers in general, so rewriting dynamic URLs into user-friendly versions is always a good practice when that option is available to you.

If you can, keeping the number of URL parameters to one or two may make it more likely that search engines will crawl your dynamic urls.”

What does this mean to your web site? If you have a dynamically created web site that uses only one or two parameters to create web pages then it’s likely that Google can index your web pages without problems.

If you use more parameters then you should rewrite your URLs. Rewriting your URLs makes sure that most search engines will be able to index your site.

If you cannot rewrite your URLs then it helps if at least one stable link points to a dynamically created page. If a web page can be found through a direct link then it is more likely that search engines index that page.

If you want to find out how Google’s search engine spider sees your web pages, take a look at IBP’s search engine spider simulator. The spider simulator is available in IBP’s free demo version and it allows you to check your web pages with any search engine spider.”
